On 19 March 2013 the Scottish Parliament hosted the launch of the UN International Year of Water Cooperation which had been declared by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2010.
The objective of the International Year is to raise awareness, both on the potential for increased cooperation, and on the challenges facing water management in light of the increase in demand for water access, allocation and services.
The event at the Scottish Parliament provided a platform for showcasing successful water cooperation initiatives between Scotland and the world.
