I have the travel document for Great Britain: Do I need a visa for visiting Ukraine or not?

If you hold Convention travel documents you must apply for a visa before you travel to Ukraine.

Do I need to provide a document about my marital status for registering marriage in Ukraine?

In connection with adoption of the order of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine dated 24.02.2015 №247 / 5 "On Approval of Amendments to Certain Orders of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in the sphere of state registration of civil status", registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine of 25.02.2015 №218 / 26663, a demand to provide documents about marital status of foreigners and stateless persons, wishing to register their marriage in Ukraine, no longer required.

Now these people have to provide information about their marital status in the questionnaire on the state registration of marriage in which they certify, by signing it, they were notified about the legal consequences of nullity of marriage in case of submission of false information.

How to pay the consular fee?

You can pay the consular fee in the bank (Barclays_Bank.docx which is located not far from the Consulate) after obtaining paying slips at the Consulate.

Am I eligible for getting marriage with a citizen of Ukraine on the territory of Ukraine?

Pursuant to Article 195 of the Code of Laws on Marriage and Family of Ukraine, a Ukrainian citizen, or a citizen of a foreign state, can enter into a marriage with a foreign national on the territory of Ukraine on a general basis, i.e. in compliance with the terms of Articles 15 and 17 of the Code of Laws on Marriage and Family of Ukraine.

To marry a Ukrainian citizen, a UK citizen should follow these step-by-step instructions.

If you have been married before, please make sure that you have the original divorce decree or death certificate properly authenticated in the UK.

Since Ukraine acceded to the 1961 Hague Convention abolishing Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, the UK documents destined for use in Ukraine should be certified by one of the officials in the jurisdiction in which the document has been executed. Said official must have been designated as competent to issue certifications by "apostille" (usually in The Legalisation Office, Foreign & Commonwealth Office, PO Box 6255, Milton Keynes, MK10 1XX, Get information by phone: (+44) 020 7008 5959.).

Fill out a Letter of Non-Impediment to Marriage ("marriage letter") at the UK Embassy in Kyiv.

This form (in English and Ukrainian) contains basic information and is a sworn statement that you are not currently married. It must be signed only in the presence of a Consular Officer and, as for a notarial service. At the same time you can obtain the forms and instructions necessary for filing an immigration petition with the Embassy or at your local Council in the UK

Authenticate the "Letter" during Citizen's reception hours on consular and legal issues at the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (legalization of documents tel.: (+38 044) 238-16-69; e-mail: [email protected], http://mfa.gov.ua/en/consular-affairs/reception).

Obtain a certified translation of the data page of your passport, any annulment decrees, divorce decrees or death certificates of your former spouse(s) (if you were previously married), and the letter of non-impediment to marriage.

To arrange for your marriage, take all the documents, including your original passport (with a translation), the authenticated original death or divorce decree (if any) (with translation), and the authenticated Letter of Non-Impediment to Marriage, with translation to RAGS - the civil registrar's office in the hometown of your fiance(e).

The Central RAGS in Kyiv is located at 11 Prospekt Peremogy, tel: +38 044 236-0071. The person who deals with marriages to foreigners can be reached at +38 044 236-0243 or +38 044 236-0147.
