Memory of Heroes of World War II commemorated in Scotland

9 May, 2016 A.Kuslii, Consul of Ukraine, laying flowers at the Dundee Memorial, paid a tribute to the 296 submariners of the Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, the Soviet Union and France, who died during the Second World War, whose home port was in Dundee (Scotland).
The Memorial, unveiled in 2009, commemorates the crews of the Allied submarines that were based in the city during the World War II and didn't return from their missions. Among those submarines was the Soviet ‘V-1' under command of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Captain 2nd Rank Israil Fisanovich.
Israil Fisanovich was born on November 10 (23), 1914 in the city of Yelisavetgrad (now - Kirovohrad, Ukraine).
In May 1944 he took command of the submarine V-1, which in July left the Lerwick Harbour, but the destination was never reached. During the passage from Dundee to Murmansk the submarine was lost, and the crew reported missing for a long time.
