Today, on May 8, 2015, by celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism in Europe and the 70th anniversary of the end of the WW 2, diplomats of the Consulate of Ukraine in Edinburgh have laid a wreath at the Dundee International Submarine Memorial.
Among the sailors, in honour of whom is the Memorial - the crew of the Soviet submarine V-1 Hero of the Soviet Union Capt. 2nd Class Israil Fisanovich, that was located in Dundee in 1944. In honor of I.Fisanovich a street of Kharkiv was named where he worked at the plant ‘Hammer and Sickle’.
Israil Fisanovich was born on November 10 (23), 1914 in the city of Yelisavetgrad (now - Kirovohrad, Ukraine).
In May 1944 he took command of the submarine V-1, which in July left the Lerwick Harbour, but the destination was never reached. During the passage from Dundee to Murmansk the submarine was lost, and the crew reported missing for a long time.
